Mamring school celebrates World Tourism Day

Gangtok, 27 Sept:

Government Senior Secondary School, Mamring, East Sikkim celebrated World Tourism Day 2018 at the school premises today, a press release informs. This year’s world tourism day was celebrated on the theme "Tourism and digital transformation".

Panchayat President of AmbaMamring GPU,DurgaLallSewa, attended the celebration as the chief guest. The daylong programme was attended by local Panchayats of Amba and Taza GPUs, SMC president and members of the school, officials from HRDD Pakyong BAC, retired employees, National awardee Teachers, Students and Teachers from Tareythang SS and Amba SS, local gentries, teachers and students of the host school, etc.

Students put up an exhibition on different fields such as Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Health science, History, Information Technology (gadgets & software development), Tourism (adventure and traditional sports, river crossing, traditional and Sikkimese food items, etc.).

The visitors interacted with the participants of various exhibitions. Several visitors were interested in measuring their blood pressure and getting their height, weight and body mass index measured, the release mentions. Chemical and physics experiments were also witnessed by the guests and visitors.

Sikkimese cultural items, costumes, historical artefacts, recycled products, rare wooden items, Indian, Nepalese and Bhutanese numismatics (coins and currencies), were also exhibited.

The guests enjoyed participating in different sports such as Dart, hit the basket, etc and also tasted local delicious dishes prepared by the students.

Students delivered speech on the history and importance of World Tourism Day and Tourism Industry.

The programme was designed by teachers SK Pradhan, Rajesh Rawat, RoselimaLepcha and Suman Kumar Sharmasupported by all the staff and students of the school. More than 450 visitors visited the exhibitions, the release adds.

Such an event was organised for the first time with the collaboration of Tourism, I.T. and Science Streams of the school, the release mentions.
