State taekwondo team excels atNational C’ship, bags 31 medals

Sikkim taekwondo team is back home after its impressive performance in the 10th Senior National Poomsae& 37th Senior National Kyorugi Taekwondo Championship 2018 which was held from 18-22 Sept at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. The State team has bagged 10 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 09 bronze medals along with team championship trophy in Poomsae.
Interestingly, all gold medalists have also qualified for the India camp for the upcoming World Taekwondo Championship to be held in Nov this year at China Taipei.
A 25-member Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association [SATA] team had represented the State in the championship. The team was led by coach, Sanjay Subba, in the championship. The championship was participated by more than 31 teams from different States, paramilitary forces and other organisations.
In a small function here at Paljor Stadium today, SATA felicitated the State team members for their outstanding performances in the championship. The function had the Secretary, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, SD Dhakal, as chief guest.
On the occasion, the Secretary congratulated the team members for winning the championship trophy, medals and laurels for the State. He also lauded the contributions of SATA chief coach, TrilokSubba,in uplifting Sikkim taekwondo.
Likewise, Sikkim Olympic Association general secretary, JaslalPradhan, and SYA Department Additional Director, Kamal Chettri,also congratulated all medal winners and entire team for their outstanding performance in the championship.
In his report of the championship, SATA chief coach, MrSubba, stated that the championship was very tough and competitive among professional and experienced martial artists from more than 31 States and different government organizations. He stated that the State team performed exceptionally well and impressed everyone in the championship towin the team championship in Poomsae.
“This was a result of the hard work and dedication and good team work of players and coaches and encouraging support from parents of players. This achievement by the senior team will definitely encourage and motivate upcoming young players of the State,” he expressed.
MrSubba mentioned that martial artists from other States also expressed their desire to trainin Sikkim.
