Farewell function held for Tourism Secy on eve of retirement

Gangtok, 29 Sept (IPR): The Home Department and DoPART on Saturday hosted a farewell function for Tourism Secretary, CP Dhakal, who is retiring from service on 30 September.

The farewell programme was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, SC Gupta, DoPART Secretary, Tenzing Gelek, HoDs and other officials of the Department.

Mr Dhakal started his 38-year service in Government as a Graduate Teacher in 1980 and later served as SDM Rabangla and Chungthang before he joined as Assistant Electoral Officer (AEO) in Election Department in 1989.

He was Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, Joint CEO, Addl CEO and was thereafter posted as DC North. He was awarded the State Meritorious Award in 2005.

He also held the posts of Municipal Commissioner of Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Additional Secretary in Health Department and Special Secretary in Tourism and Civil Aviation Department before he was promoted as Secretary in the month of April earlier this year.

During his tenure as Municipal Commissioner, GMC bagged Cleanest Hill Station Award and Cleanliness Capital Awards. Recently, on behalf of the State and Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Mr Dhakal received Sikkim’s National Award for Best State/ Union Territory for Comprehensive Development of Tourism award (among Jammu and Kashmir and North Eastern states).

In his farwell speech, Mr Dhakal thanked the people and all the officers and staff of various departments for their cooperation. He extended his thanks to the state government and everyone who has been associated with him during his service.

The Additional Chief Secretary lauded the contributions of the officer on completing his service with dedication and zeal. He wished Mr Dhakal success in his future endeavours and shared some of his good memories with him.
