149th Gandhi Jayanti celebrations across East district

Gangtok, 03 Oct:

Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti celebrated the 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in an event held at Shantinagar, East Sikkim, which also included the unveiling of paintings on walls along the National Highway at Shantinagar, a press release informs.

The paintings, featuring messages on healthy, green and organic Sikkim, were prepared by the members of Krypton Arts Society Sikkim, Singtam.

The wall painting was inaugurated by Head Lobella of Karma Thujee Monastery, Shantinagar as chief guest.

Safaikarmacharis, Ongdi Lepcha and Bhim B Rai, and driver, Suresh Darnal, from Singtam Nagar Panchayat were also gifted new clothes.

A resident of Adarsh Goan, South Sikkim, Dr Pradeep Sharma Luitel, was also felicitated for completing his PhD in Sanskrit.

Likewise, resident of Tirkutam, Sang, East Sikkim, Praja Pradhan, was also felicitated for his progress in the field of Nepali cinema.

Further, three personalities from Chisopani GPU were presented with congratulatory mementos.

Anita Sewa was congratulated for receiving the Commendation Award from HRDD, while Gopal Bishwakarma from Tinek [winner of Indra Jatra Talent Hunt 2018] and Shanker Lamichaney [enterprenuer from Shantinagar] were also presented with mementos for their achievements in their respective fields.

Krypton Arts Society Sikkim was also awarded memento for creating beautiful paintings on the wall of National Highway.

Similarly, Tinek Kalyan Sangh, East Sikkim also celebrated the 149th Gandhi Jayanti by offering prayers at the Singha Devi Mandir at Tinek by the members of the society on 02 Oct.

ASHA member, Hom Kumari Pradhan, shared awareness and information on dengue while ICDS member, Yogita Pradhan, spoke on the importance of nutrition for growing child.

Likewise, at Rongli in East Sikkim, the Gandhi Jayanti celebration was held at Riverine Elementary School with its principal, Bikki Rai, as chief guest.

Students of Riverine Elementary School presented cultural programmes. The second half of the celebration featured sit and draw competition on the theme ‘Gandhi Jayanti’.

At Lingtam in East Sikkim, Bosco English School, Lingtam hosted the Gandhi Jayanti celebration programme in a grand manner in the presence of government contractor, Thendu Sherpa, as chief guest along with Deputy Director, Human Resource Development Department, Dorjee Sherpa, senior citizens, school heads of the surrounding schools, guardians and students. Bosco English School felicitated 20 senior citizens from Lingtam, Regu and Sisney Subaney Block as a mark of respect for their contribution to the society.
