An impressive turnout of 152 runners made the Gangtok Road Runners a major event here today. The run of 10 KMs and 3 KMs was organised by Sikkim Mountaineering Association [SMA].
Gangtok Road Runners is a promotional event for the upcoming third edition of Kanchenjunga Marathon to be held from 31 October to 07 November in West Sikkim. Kanchenjunga Marathon is the first high altitude marathon of Sikkim from the base camp of the third highest peak of the world, Mount Kanchenjunga.
The Gangtok run was flagged off from the Ridge.
In 10 KMs open men’s run, Puran Rai bagged first position with a time of 30:05 minutes followed by Uttam Bhujel on second and Suraj Raj Subba on third position.
In the 10 KMs open women’s category, Anjali Subba stood first position with a timing of 37:42 minutes, while Chandra Kala Sharma finished second and Eaksa Hangma Limboo ran in third.
In 10 KMs veterans [above 45 years], Sher Bahadur Chettri stood first, followed by Anup Jyoti Baniya and MB Chettri on second and third positions respectively.
In 3 KMs U-14 girls, Subina Rai finished first position with a timing of 14:29 minutes, followed by Nima Dolma Sherpa and Pushpa Chettri.
In 3 KMs U-14 boys, Buddha Sherpa stood first position with a timing of 12:39 minutes with Kunga Nima Kazi on second position and Pema Ghaley Sherpa on third.
SMA is sponsoring the top three men and women’s category winners and the winner of the veteran’s category of Gangtok Road Runners to the Kanchenjunga Marathon. The organisers have thanked Phurba Sherpa for sponsoring the medals for today’s event.
