SLSA organizes workshop for counselors on managing substance use disorders
Gangtok, 07 Oct:
The Sikkim State Legal Services Authority, under the directions and guidance of Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai, the Acting Chief Justice, High Court of Sikkim and also Executive Chairperson, Sikkim SLSA, organized a training programme on “Managing Substance Use Disorders: An Overview” for counselors of rehabilitation and de-addiction centres of Sikkim on 06 Oct (Saturday) at the Training Hall of Sikkim State Legal Services Authority here at Development Area.
Shalinta Rai, Clinical Psychologist, Psychiatry Department, STNM Hospital, was present as the resource person and also conducted a pre-test to assess the level of existing knowledge of the participants regarding substance (alcohol, tobacco and other drugs) use and substance related problems and its management.
She then spoke on Mental Status Examination of individuals with substance use disorders and also conducted a post assessment of the level of knowledge regarding substance use and substance related problems and its management.
Nancy Chankapa, Clinical Psychologist, Psychiatry Department, STNM Hospital, held an informal quiz on substance use disorders, epidemiology and its management and also spoke on Motivation and Treatment in Substance user Disorders and Co-Morbidities of Substance use Disorders.
The Welcome address and the Vote of Thanks were proposed by Suraj Chettri, Member Secretary, Sikkim SLSA.
Counselors from nine rehabilitation and se-addiction centres of Sikkim attended the programme.
