A seminar on “Exploring the opportunities and Identification of areas of Cooperation in Organic Dairy Development in the State” was held at the Conference Hall of KrishiBhawan, Tadong, today. The seminar was chaired by Principal Director, Horticulture and Cash Crops Development Department, Dr. K.Bhandari.
Dr. K. Bhandariaddressing the seminar said that the State is progressing well in an organic way not only in agriculture sector but in the dairy sector as well. He suggested that a continuous training and exchange programme should be imparted for further development of organic sector in the State.
Former Agriculture Minister, Germany, Rebate Kuenast also blessed the occasion by sharing her experiences in the practice of organic farming. She urged to adopt the policy of quality production rather than mass production.
Director COLABORA, Germany, BernwardGeier informed the dignitaries present that Sikkim has been shortlisted as finalist for World Future Council Award which is being presented this month in Rome. This award is the highest recognition in the organic world.
The session also saw power point presentation by Additional Director, AH, LSF&VS Department, Dr. B.M Chhetri, Managing Director, SMU wherein they presented the overview of the departments and the initatives the departments have taken in adopting organic practices. Barbara Scheitz, MolkereiAndech, Germany, an expert in organic dairy farming in her Power Point Presentation presented the organic methods she has been practicing in her dairy farm.
Director, Welthungerhilfe, India, NiveditaVarshneya also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, Secretary, H& CCDD/FSADD, Khorlo Bhutia proposed the welcome address.
An interactive session was also held during the programme.
