Tourism Day celebrated in ICFAI University

GANGTOK, 10 Oct:

ICFAI University [School of Management Studies, Department of Hospitality & Tourism] celebrated the “World Tourism Day 2018” today here in the premises of ICFAI University. Minister for Roads & Bridges Department and Cultural Affairs & Heritage Department, GarjamanGurung attended the function as the chief guest. In his speech, the Minister spoke about the significance of tourism and culture. He added that education is a lifelong process which has no end so it is to be a good human being as well.

Stating that tourism is the second largest industry in the world, he urged the students to ensure that Sikkim’s tourism future is secured. The Minister also said that taxi drivers need to be more aware about the history of the state because they play an essential role in engaging tourists visiting from all across the globe.

In his speech, Vice Chancellor, ICFAI University, Dr. JagannathPatnaik, said, “We must be aware about our culture and we have to be united to preserve our culture.” He also spoke about the main purpose of celebrating the World Tourism Day which is to raise awareness about tourism.

“With the growth in tourism we face many challenges hence it is important to address global challenges and sustainable development,” he said.

Cultural Affairs Secretary, AmbikaPradhan, also addressed the function.

On the occasion, the Minister felicitated 07 representatives from Taxi Drivers Association and Travel Agents Association of Sikkim.Altogether 17 representatives were to be felicitated but only 07 were present today. The felicitation will also be sent to the rest, it is informed.

The function also had a presentation on tourism planning and policies being presented by CEO, Eco Tourism and Conservation Society of Sikkim [ECOSS], RP Gurung followed by a group dance [culture fusion], and visual on Sikkim tourism by sponsors.

ICFAI university expressed gratitude towards the sponsors [Summit Hotel of Namchi] and national media as their partners for supporting the entire program.
