2 Sikkim girls in Team India for World Body Building & Physique Sports C’ship PandiTargain wins

Gangtok, 11 Oct:

PandiTargain and KarishmaSubbarecently represented the country in the prestigious 52nd Asian Body Building & Physique Sports Championship 2018 held from 02-08 Oct at Pune in Maharashtra. In the championship, PandiTargain won a silver medal in women’s sports physique and a bronze medal in women’s sports physique upto 164 cm for the country whileKarishmaSubba stood on the fifth position in women’s junior model physique.

35-year-old Pandi is a certified fitness trainer presently based in Delhi while 21-year-old Karishma is a fifth semester student of Burtuk Government College and is also the current State champion of strength lifting, power lifting and weight lifting. Pandi has already represented the country in different competitions while it was the debut championship for Karishma in an international level competition.

It may be mentioned here, selection trial for the Team India for upcoming 52nd Asian & 10th World Body Building & Physique Sports Championship 2018 was held on 01 Sept at Raipur in Chhattisgarh whereina four-member team of Body Building & Power Lifting Association of Sikkim [BBPLAS] had participated and the duo secured their berth in Team India.

Sharing her experience about the championship today, Karishma expressed her happiness and satisfaction with her debut performance in an international championship.

“It was a proud moment for me to represent my country. Although I could not win any medal in this tough competition, it was a learning experience for me. I will prepare harder for upcoming competitions,” she expressed.

She stated that it is her dream to represent the country in international competitions. She also assured to give her best to make Sikkim and the nation proud in the near future.

General secretary[BBPLAS], Pema WD Bhutia, congratulated both athletes from Sikkim for their outstanding performance for the country in the Asian championship. He mentioned that Pandi has also qualified for the upcoming 10th World Body Building & Physique Sports Championship 2018 to be held by the end of this year in Thailand.He appreciated the performance of Karishma in her debut appearance in an international competition.

“She has lots of potential to do better in national and international competitions in coming days and she just needs some support and encouragement. Our association will always extend support to her and other young athletes,” he said.

He informed that BBPLAS will be organising the State-level power lifting competition in Nov which will be followed by Mr Sikkim contest in Dec this year.
