Organic Sikkim organised daylong training programme on organic input management and certification at SBI Bank premises in Lachung, North Sikkim on 10 Oct, a press release informs.
The programme was attended by Pipon, LachungDzumsa, TenzingOngpoLachungpa, Deputy Director, Horticulture & Cash Crops Development Department, Shanker Bhutia, Field Assistant, PemaWangyal Bhutia, Field Coordinator, Organic Sikkim, Meena Sharma, Block Level In-charge, Leda DorjeeLepcha, Field Officers, YangselDomaLachenpa and SonamDonkaLachenpa, along with 30 farmers of LachungDzumsa.
In the opening session, Block Level In-charge, MrLepcha, placed the agenda of the programme.
Field Coordinator, Ms Sharma, highlighted the role and responsibilities of farmers towards organic certification programme and stressed on the importance of maintaining farm diary in ICS management.
She also advised farmers to fill up the farm diary properly and added that each and every crop grown in the field should be documented in the farm diary so that the same can be uploaded in the trace net accordingly.
Deputy Director, H&CCDD, Mr Bhutia, briefed the farmers about various inputs and seed distributed by the department earlier to the farmers. He also mentioned that the use of inputs in proper time is the duty and responsibilities of the farmers to avoid any kinds of complaint on yield and pest and disease management.
The Pipon, LachungDzumsa, in his address, informed that the farmers of LachungDzumsa are receiving organic seed and inputs in proper time from the concerned department. Further, production of organic vegetables has also increased in the area as compared to previous years, he added.
He also placed issues of marketing faced by farmers of the Dzumsa and urged the concerned department to address them.
