Mr Sikkim Manhunt finalists talk mental health


Gangtok, 11 Oct:

Temi Tea Mr Sikkim 2018 Manhunt which has the theme “Let's talk mental health” had two of its contestants,Shahil Lama and ChumalLepcha, deliver talks on mental health during a programme conducted by Health Care, Human Services & Family Welfare Department on the occasion of World Mental Health Day at Sir TashiNamgyal Higher Secondary School in Gangtok on 10 Oct.

Health Minister, AK Ghatani, attended the event as chief guest.

While addressing the audience,ChumalLepcha shared his experiences about the importance of taking care of one’s mental wellbeing.

Citing his own example, he stressed on the need to follow one’s passion and being happy as key ingredients to good mental health.

Going with this year’stheme of Mr Sikkim 2018 Manhunt, both the finalists have thanked the organisers of the programme for inviting them to talk mental health and have also hoped that all likeminded stakeholders would converge to make mental health a top priority.

Likewise, another finalist,Shahil Lama, shared his thoughts on various mental health risks.

He also highlighted about the past problems of how Sikkim had about 35.7%of suicide rate “which is bad” and also questioned why such cases were happening.

He further stressed on problems faced by students like social stigmas,too much of social media, anxiety. He then urged the students to be genuine,real, follow real role models,be kind, listen to others in need and be open-minded.

Organisers of Mr Sikkim 2018 Manhunt have thanked the organisers for inviting the finalists.
