Justice Vijay Kumar Bist to become next Chief Justice of Sikkim

Gangtok, 13 Oct: The senior-most judge of Uttarakhand High Court, Justice Vijay Kumar Bist, is all the set to become the next Chief Justice of Sikkim. The post of Chief Justice had fallen vacant after the superannuation of Justice Satish Kumar Agnihotri on 31 June earlier this year. The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice, Ranjan Gogoi, Justice MB Lokur and Justice Kurian Joseph on Tuesday recommended a new Chief Justice of the High Court of Sikkim along with four other Chief Justices including the Uttrakhand High Court, Gauhati High Court, Mumbai High Court and Kolkata High Court. Justice Bist was born on 17 September 1957 at Lansdowne, District Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand and obtained his Law Degree from Allahabad University. He enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh in 1984 and started practicing in various segments of litigations and till first week of November 2000 continued practicing at Allahabad High Court. After creation of Uttarakhand High Court, Justice Bist shifted to Nainital and practiced at Uttarakhand High Court. On 01 July 2004 he was designated as Senior Advocate. On 01 November 2008 was elevated as Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court.
