Gangtok, 22 Oct:
Sikkim Democratic Front [SDF] is all set to organize a grand welcome for Chief Minister PawanChamlingwho is scheduled to return to the State from Rome on 24 Oct. The elaborate welcome, to stretch from Rangpo to Gangtok, is being organized to celebrate the recent awards conferred on the State.
On 12 Oct, the Chief Minister had received the 6th JRD Tata Memorial Award in New Delhi conferred by The Population Foundation of India which had selected Sikkim as the best performing State under ‘high focus category’.
Sikkim was also awarded the Future Policy Gold Award, 2018bythe World Future Council and IFOAM Organics International. The CM received the awardon behalf of the State on 14 Oct in Rome.
SDF has directed all the electedmembers of the State Assembly, Urban and Rural bodies and partyfunctionaries to be present at Rangpotoreceivethe CM on 24 Oct. The CM is returning to the State aftercompleting his 12-day visit of Europe.
SDF senior party functionary informed that atleast 20-25000party functionaries including officials are expected to be present inthe reception function at Rangpo and the CM may address thegathering at Rangpo.The CM is expected to reach Rangpo at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister along with his official delegation visited Bologna University, the oldest University of the world, on 19 Oct at Bologna in Italy.
Founded in 1088, the University is the oldest functional University in the world to undertake courses as varied as Architecture, Cultural Heritage, Classical Philosophy & Italian Studies, Physics & Astronomy, Agriculture & Food Science, etc.
During the next leg of his tour programme, MrChamling also visited the Instituto Dante and Voltaire in Milan on 20 Oct. Named after the classical literacy giants of The Divine Comedy fame, the CM paid tribute to the poet and philosopher who shaped the literacy landscape of all the subsequent centuries through their literary works with major influence cutting across the continents and nationalities the world over.
