Sikkim Chess Assoc felicitates players for outstanding performance

GANGTOK, 25 Oct:

Sikkim Chess Association felicitated its players on Thursday for their outstanding performances in two recent chess tournaments held outside the State. SCA executive members congratulated the State team players for winning trophies, medal and laurels for the State and further expressed best wishes for upcoming competitions.

A five-member SCA team had participated in Rautahat International Open Chess Tournament 2018 held from 08 to 12 Oct at Rautahat in Nepal. In the tournament, ThendupTamang stood on the second position and received cash prize of Rs 40,000, Rahul Gurung finished on the third position and was awarded with cash prize of Rs 30,000 while RohitGurungfinished 7th and bagged cash prize of Rs 20,000. Likewise, BhojBahadruChettri won the first prize in Best Elo Rating 1400-1599 category and Rick Gupta stood on the third position in U-15 category.

The same five-member SCA team also participated in Jalpaiguri Chess Festival 2018 Open Rapid Tournament held from 21 to 23 Octat Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. In the tournament, ThendupTamang again came second, Rahul Gurungin fourth position and RohitGurung in tenth position. Rick Gupta stood on the ninth position in the U-15 category of the tournament and despite a good performance ChewangDorjeecould not win any prize.

While congratulating the team members, SCA general secretary MahendraDhakal appreciated their performance in these tournaments and further expressed best wishes for upcoming chess tournaments. He expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and further encouraged the State players to continue with their practice and hard work to keep the name of Sikkim on the top in upcoming national tournaments.

SCA players have been preparing for the upcoming U-19 National Chess Tournament to be held from 28 Novto 06 Dec at New Delhi and Senior National Chess Tournament to be held in Decat Jammu.
