Calcutta Customs beats Rainbow SC Kolkata, enters quarterfinals

Calcutta Customs has also entered the quarter-final round of the ongoing 38th All India Governor’s Gold Cup International Football Tournament 2018 here at Paljor Stadium. In the last pre quarter-final match this afternoon, Calcutta Customs edged past Rainbow SC, Kolkata in a tie-breaker.

This is the second match in the tournament which has been decided in a tie-breaker after Sikkim Aakraman Football Club defeated Sogolband United, Manipur 4-2 in a tie-breaker on Thursday.

With equal possession of the ball throughout the match, both the teams maintained pressure on each other with constant attacks and counter-attacks but missed some golden opportunities to take the lead. The first half ended in a goalless draw. Both the teams again failed to capitalise some good opportunities in the second half and the full time of the match concluded in a goalless draw.

Twenty minutes extra-time game also ended without any goals. Finally, the match entered the tie-breaker through penalty shoot-out.

In the tie-breaker, Rainbow SC players managed to score just two goals in five shots while Calcutta Customs players converted three shots into goals.

With this 3-2 win, Calcutta Customs will take on ManangMarsyangdi Club, Nepal in the quarter-final on 30 Oct.

The first quarter-final match will be played between Sikkim Premier Division League 2018 champion, United Sikkim Football Club and Independence Day Football Tournament for Chogyal Sir TashiNamgyal Memorial Club 2018 champion, Army XI [Red].
