State level Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition


Gangtok, 26 Oct (IPR): A three-day“State level Science,Mathematics and Environment Exhibition for Children, 2018-19” was held from 24 to 26 Oct at Brihaspatiparsai SSS, Ranipool which was organised by State Council of Educational Research and Training, Human Resource and Development Department, Govt of Sikkim in association with National Council of Educational Research and Training,New Delhi.

The main theme of the exhibition was “Scientific Solution for challenges in life” and a total of 47 students from different schools participated in the exhibition.

Today being the last day of exhibition, the programme was chaired by M.P/LokSabha,P.D Rai who was accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary HRDD, GP Upadhaya, Assistant Professor NCRT , Dr.C.V. Shimray, guest dignitaries, teachers and students from various districts.

While addressing the gathering, PD Rai stated that young minds should be vibrant enough to understand the problems plaguing the society and they should envisage solutions with skilled minds and recreate positive thoughts. He added that Sikkim is an organic state and the youth and the future generations should focus on maintaining the organic culture through the help of science and newer technologies. He congratulated the teachers and students for taking part in this exhibition.

Later GP Upadhaya Additional Chief Secretary HRDD said that students should come up with more ideas and solutions to the problem that society is facing and should inspire everybody. “For future growth of Sikkim we need young men and women to lead the society” said Mr.Upadhaya. He expressed happiness in seeing students and teachers coming from some remote area despite facing a lot of difficulties.

Dr.C.V.Shimray said that one can’t always expect Scientists to bring the solutions for the problem we are facing, so students should innovate and devise ideas without depending upon scientists and engineer.She suggested that students should first understand the problem then come up with ideas and implement them. Later in the programme MP LokSabha, PD Raidistributed the trophies and certificates to the winners and other participants were given certificates.

A total of 47 schools participated in the three day long exhibition; 20 from East, 06 from North, 17 from South and 17 from west. Out of the 47, 10 schools have been selected for the Eastern India Science Fair which is going to be held on 8th to 12th January 2019 at Kolkata.

The ranking of the participanting school in the exhibition were adjudged as follows; 1.Tashi Namgyal senior secondary school, 2.Rangpo senior secondary school, 3.Ranipool school, 4.modern school, 5.Deorali Girls school, 6.Namchi Girls school, 7.Magan senior secondary school, 8.Mamring school, 9.Tadong senior secondary school, 10.Sadam senior secondary school.

Lastly, the vote of thanks was given by Joint Director SCERT which concluded with a group photo.
