Sikkim heli service completes 20 years of operations

Gangtok, 28 Oct:

Sikkim has its own airport now, but it would be unfair to forget the Helicopter Service being provided by the Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation (STDC). The chopper has after all served Sikkim for twenty years now.

The Pawan Hans helicopter service completed 20 years of operations in Sikkim on Sunday.

To mark the historic occasion, STDC organized a special event at its base at Burtuk Helipad here and at the City Counter at MG Marg.

STDC operates its services from Gangtok to Bagdogra and back with a variety of joy ride options thrown in.

STDC celebrated their anniversary with its staff, Captain and passengers at the Burtuk Helipad, today. A cake-cutting ceremony was also organized.

The Heli Service Team and Travel Division of the STDC have been tirelessly engaged in providing different kinds of heli-services to the people of Sikkim and tourists.

The heli service not only includes joy rides but has been successful in managing countless emergency, medical and VVIP flights.

Also today, the recently appointed Chief Justice of the High Court of Sikkim took a flight from Bagdogra to Gangtok and attended the anniversary function as a passenger.

Helipad Incharge Tshering W Subba and Deomaya Rai offered cakes and sweets to the passengers at Burtuk Helipad.

Speaking with SummitTIMES, the Helipad Estate Manager, Tejpal Pradhan, said that the 20 year mark was made all possible due to the dedication, commitment, hard work and selfless service of the staff.

The Chief Executive Officer, STDC, Suman Thapa, also congratulated all the staff and team on the occasion.
