DSA demands clarification from political parties on Sherpa land protection


Gangtok, 29 Oct:

A public coordination meeting of the Denzong Sherpa Association for East Sikkim commenced on 28 Oct from Phadamchen under Chujachenconstituency. The meeting was attended by eminent scholar, writer and language expert, PN Sherpa, a press release informs.

The meeting unanimously supported the demand of Sherpa Land Protection under Revenue Order No. 1 and demanded clarification from all political parties of the State regarding their stand on land protection for theSherpa community in Sikkim.

It is further demanded that political parties supporting the demand of Sherpas should clearly address the issue in their election manifesto.

Failing to address the issue of Sherpa will compel Sherpas of Sikkim to take their own political decision, the release adds.

In his remarks, DSA president,LhaTshering Sherpa, urged the SikkimeseSherpas to pursue the Land Protection under Revenue Order No. 1 in unity not just to achieve the rights of buying and selling of land but to establish the identity of Sherpas in Sikkim for generations to come.

The meeting was attended bymembers of all Sherpa Kyidug across the State along with the public and Panchayats of Chujachenconstituency.
