Sikkim bags 25 medals at NE Olympic Games


Gangtok, 30 Oct:

The first North East Olympic Games was held at Imphal in Manipur from 24-28 Oct with the participation of all eight North East States. Led by president of Sikkim Olympic Association, Kuber Bhandari, Sikkim participated in ten disciplines during the event, a press release informs.

The closing ceremony was held on 28 Oct in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, Y Joykumar Singh, as chief guest.

Sikkim bagged medals in various disciplines namely 1gold, 2 silver & 3 bronze in Taekwondo, 3 silver in Wushu, 1 silver & 3 bronze in Boxing, 1 silver & 3 bronze in Karate, 2 bronze inTable Tennis, 2 bronze in Badminton, 2 bronze in Athletics, 1 bronze in Weightlifting and 1 bronze in Football. The only gold in Taekwondo was achieved by Avinash Pradhan [under 58 kg category].

With 80 gold, 48 silver and 31 bronze medals, Manipur grabbed the first position in the NE Olympic Games followed by Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in second and third positions respectively.
