Manang Marshangdi Club [MMC], Nepal, will take on Army [Red] in the finals of the 38th All India Governor’s Gold Cup International Football Tournament 2018 here at Paljor Stadium on 03 Nov.
Exhibiting a very good game in the second semi-final match today, MMC registered a convincing 6-2 victory over ISL Team, ATK Kolkata, to secure a place in the finals of the tournament.
Army is already in the finals of the tournament after defeating home team Sikkim Aakraman Football Club by a lone goal in the first semi-final played on 31 Oct.
Today’s match drew an almost packed crowd of spectators who cheered for Nepal team throughout the match. It is obvious for whom the stadium will be cheering on 03 Nov.
In the presence of good home crowd support, the Nepal team made an attacking start.
Anjan Bista snatched an early lead for MMC in the 8th minute of the match. The young squad of ATK also made some good attacks but could not breach the defense line of MMC.
While ATK players were putting in their best efforts to equalise, Dona Thapa doubled the lead of MMC in the 43rd minute. However, SK Azaruddin reduced the goal margin by scoring a goal for ATK in the additional time of the first half.
With maximum possession in the second half, MMC players made continuous attacks on the Kolkata side. Dona Thapa completed his brace in the 55th minute and his teammate extended the lead to 4-1 in the 76th minute.
Nepal striker, Dona Thapa, went on to complete his hattrick in the 84th minute and soon his teammate Sujal Shrestha extended the lead to 6-1 in the 88th minute.
Thomyo Shimray of ATK tried to console the team with his goal in additional time of the match but it was not enough to stop MMC Nepal from entering the finals of the tourney.
MMC Nepal will take on Army Red in the finals of the tournament on 03 Nov at 1:30 pm.
