CM inaugurates Chenrezig statue at Pelling, Sikkim has now become a ‘Singkham’ says Chamling

Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today inaugurated the 137-feet tall statue of Chenrezig at Pelling in West Sikkim.
The statue was consecrated with a special prayer “Chyaney” led by Dodrupchen Rinpoche, Lachung Rinpoche and Gonjyong Rinpoche with around 150 monks from Sanga Choeling and Pemayangtse monasteries.
Nestled in the snow-capped mountains of Sikkim, the new Buddhist pilgrimage site constructed at a cost of Rs 46.65 croreis expected to be a boon for tourism as well as for the devotees.Located on top of the hill near Sanga Choeling Monastery, the venue is roughly 1.5 kms away from Pelling.
Addressing the function, the CM said that Sikkim has now become a ‘Singkham’ [Chyosam] asthe Chenrezig Shingkham Riwo Potala completes the ‘TsolungTurlsom’ of a Buddhist altar in the State with Guru Rinpoche statue at Samdruptse in Namchi and Lord Buddha statue [TathagathaTsal] in Rabongla.
The CM further stated that people of Sikkim have created history and should be proud of having such project in the State. He also congratulated the officials from the concerned departments and added that some more works like construction of welcome gate, beautification of the premises, meditation hall,etc will be constructed in the second phase of the project with the budget to be sanctioned in the month of Mar-Apr next year.
“Sikkim’s democracy is one of the costliest democracies in the world. People should analyze what our government has done in the past 24 years,” he stated.
The CM also said that 90% jobs will be provided to local unemployed youth in all the private sectors and further appealed to all to take advantageof it instead of allowing outsiders to do so.
The foundation stone for the project was laid by the CM on 25 Nov, 2009. The one-of-a-kind project is spread over an area of 9.5 acres and it houses the 135 ft statue of Lord Chenrezig as the center of attraction along with skywalk, grand stair case, water body with the magnificent eight- serpents [Klu- Chen- Gyet] and variety of religious artifacts, all designed and constructed as per the principles of Vastu Shastra.
The project was consecrated by the Dalai Lama in March earlier this year. It was funded and constructed under the supervision of the Departments of Cultural Affairs and Buildings & Housing, the CM informed.
During the event, the CM also laid the foundation stone of 1.7 km long passenger ropeway from Pelling Senior Secondary School to Sanga Choeling and also inaugurated the skywalk at the premises.
Sanga Choeling and Pema Yangtse monks also felicitated the CM on the day.
