Sikkim’s Bhim Pradhan among awardees
GANGTOK, 13 Nov:
Sahitya Akademi will be organising the award ceremony of Bal Sahitya Puraskar in Sikkim for the first time. The event will be held on Wednesday at Nar Bahadur Bhandari College, Tadong.
Addressing the media today, Secretary for Sahitya Akademi, K Sreenivasarao, informed that Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters under Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is presenting this prestigious award to 23 writers in different languages recognised by it. Bhim Pradhan from Sikkim is getting this award this year for his works in children’s literature.
Sahitya Akademi’s Vice President, Dr. Madhav Kaushik will present the prestigious award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque and a cheque of Rs. 50,000 each to the awardees at the special function. The said ceremony is expected to be attended by eminent Assamese writer, Dr. Nagen Saikia as the chief guest.
Dr Sreenivasarao informed that Sahitya Akademi is also organising Bal Sahitya Puraskar Awardees Meet and Symposium on the Evolution of Children’s Literature on 15 November here at Janta Bhawan.
He mentioned that award winning authors will speak about their works and experiences during the programme and symposium will have eminent writers from different parts of the country.
Dr. Madhav Kaushik will preside over the session. Thereafter symposium on "The Evolution of Children's Literature" will be inaugurated by Dr. K Sreenivasarao, who will welcome the guest of honor, eminent Nepali writer Shanti Chhetri.
The organiser Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi have conducted the said award ceremony in other states in the North East, so this time they are organising it in Sikkim.
