Janta Melas in Jan-2019 to cover 17,000 households

RM&DD Minister, SB Subedi, today announced that Janta Melas will be held in different parts of the State starting next January.
In West Sikkim, the Janta Melas will be held at Soreng, Dentam, Gyalshing and Yuksam while in South Sikkim, the venues are Rabongla, Namchi, Jorethang and Yangyang.
In North Sikkim, Janta Melas will be held at Kabi, Mangan and Chungthang while in East Sikkim, the places are Rangpo, Rongli, Pakyong and Gangtok.
The RM&DD Minister informed that while the dates have not yet been fixed, it has been decided that the Janta Melas will be held in January 2019. The Janta Mela will begin from Soreng Sub division in West Sikkim.
“We are distributing benefits like CMRHMs in this Janta Mela. A total of 100 CMRHMs, each of Rs 12 lakh, in every constituency. We will also be distributing GCI sheets to 600 houses in each constituency,” he said.
House upgradation schemes will also be extended to 1,500 houses in each constituency. This scheme has Rs. 30,000 as grant with Rs. 15,000 given to the beneficiaries in the first phase, informed Mr Subedi.
The other benefits to be given by RM&DD and other departments include water filters, pressure cookers along with grants to religious institutions.
The selection process and survey of beneficiaries is currently underway at each ward, he informed, while detailing that the State government officers, including the BDOs, are also involved in the selection process and were selecting beneficiaries who need assistance on a priority basis.
He informed that roughly 17,000 households will be covered under the Janta Melas this time.
