Commerce & Industries Department discusses ease of doing business

Gangtok, 19 Nov [IPR]:

A meeting to discuss Ease of Doing Businessorganized by the Department of Commerce and Industries was held at the Conference Hall of the Chief Secretary today at Manan Kendra. The meeting waschaired by Chief Secretary, AKShrivastava.

The welcome address was presented by Principal Secretary, Commerceand Industries Department, Thomas Chandy, who gave a briefbackground on earlier meetings where it had been decided that allthe 13 departments involved in issuing permits for registrationof new industries in the State would have their own web portal with details for permits and application download from potential applicants.

He pointed out that due to software developmentissues,this has not been possible and thus has remained a big hindrance.

The Principal Secretary suggested a single window integratedformat where requirements of individual department needed frompotential applicants for industries are collected and disseminated tothe concerned departments. Websites and portals of Departments alreadyexisting can link it with Industries Department for easier access toforms, applications and various other details, he added.

At the end of the deliberations, the Principal Secretary urged foractive cooperation from all the departments and said that with activecoordination cooperation the growth of industries in Sikkim can beplaced on the roadmap of the country soon.

Discussion and inputs from all the representatives of the line departments also took place whereby various suggestions were placedand discussed.

The CS thanked everyone for the gooddiscussion on the matter and said, “Thoughindustrialization in Sikkim is still at an early phase, we must allwork together so that the State moves towards more progress andprosperity.”

The meeting was attended by officials representing various departments of the State Government. The vote of thanks was delivered by Director, Commerceand Industries, TashiChopel.
