The People’s Studio launched in Gangtok

Gangtok, 19 Nov:

The People’s Studio featuring various works on exhibit by artists from around North East India was launched in Gangtok on 18 Nov. The studio will be open from Monday to Friday for the public to experience art from the region, a press release informs.

RidaGatphoh and Peter Marbaniang from the artists collective “Rida&The Musical Folks” of Meghalaya who are working on a 360 music project “Reviving ancient instruments”, gave an enriching performance to the audience.

“We feel a deep connection with a space like The People’s Studio. It is a necessary initiative,”Rida said.

The two musicians spoke of their philosophy and gave a talk on how nature is integral to art.

Photographer,KungaTashi, exhibited Frontier’s Pass, a series created with researcher, AnandDamodaran.

Tashi said, “The People’s Studio gives an opportunity to artists to exhibit and showcase their works. It is a good platform to connect with artists and see works of other artists for inspiration. It is necessary for Sikkim.”

Contemporary artist, Karma Tenrab, who exhibited three of his works, said, “The space is a dream for artists like me. Being an artist can be a lonely journey otherwise, without spaces like these.”

Karma Tenrab’s work is up for exhibit till 30 Nov. The works at The People’s Studio is now open for public viewing, the release adds.
