Transport Deptt announces revision in rules

The Transport Department has made various revisions to provide relief to transporters of the State. The department stated that by working in the interest of the people in the transport sector the government has made various revisions.

Addressing a press conference here today, Principal Secretary, SBS Bahaduria, informed that the annual fitness test of the vehicle has been revised to two years duration now for eight-year-old vehicles.

He added that there is no requirement of fitness test at the time of the registration of the new vehicles as now all vehicles manufacturers have already conducted the fitness tests.

He informed that the age of the luxury vehicle has been revised to 10 years from the existing nine years.

On the same, he added that new luxury vehicles will get 10 years now and existing luxury vehicles can apply for one year extension.

Mr Bahaduria mentioned that the third party insurance of three years is required for new vehicles now onwards. He added that this decision was in the interest of vehicle owners and save their money from the annual insurance regime.

He added that the government was also planning to pool vehicle system for private vehicles to decrease traffic congestion. He added that the department has been preparing plans and guidelines for the same.

The Principal Secretary informed that the department has revised taxi fares and that the same will be notified soon. He urged all to abide by the taxi fares notified by the government and if anyone has any grievances, they can approach the department.

He mentioned that rates have been revised 15% upwards on average. This, after a gap of three years.

He also informed that now goods in the goods carriers need to be covered properly by tarpaulin or should be inside containers.
