Namchi, 20 Nov [IPR]: Government Industrial Training Institute [ITI], Khichudumra, South Sikkim, held its Convocation and Annual Day function at the campus today.
SLA Speaker, KN Rai, attended the event as the chief guest accompanied by guests of honour Commanding Officer, 4 BN NCC, NCC Training Institute, Kamrang, Colonel Gulshan Chadha, and Principal of Kamrang Government College, Parshuram Sharma.
The program was also attended by Principal of SSS, Lakpa Gyalpo Sherpa, Principal ITI Geyzing, TN Sharma, BDO Sikip, Ranjan Rai, IO Fire Department, KB Gurung alongside Panchayat members, NGO representatives, school heads, senior citizens, staff and students of ITI, Namchi.
Principal MN Bhutia welcomed the gathering and presented the annual report of the institute. He informed that 126 trainees are currently undergoing technical training at the institute.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest congratulated the second batch of pass-out trainees of the Institute for successfully completing their course and emphasised the importance of skill development and capacity building in today’s context and credited the State Government and the leadership of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling for making Sikkim the first state to initiate and enable capacity building programmes.
He also shed light on the global status of youth opting for service sector and urged the students and youth alike of Sikkim to develop keener interest in allied activities and entrepreneurial opportunities.
AD, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department, Dr IBS Yadav, in turn, lauded the numerous capacity-building programmes of the State Government which help the youth become skilled and efficient and facilitates placements as well.
The program was also addressed by Col Chadha who spoke about the opportunities and scope for ITI Diploma Holder in the Defence Forces. He urged the students explore careers in the armed forces apart from conventional employment opportunities. He also assured to organize a recruitment drive for NCC in the campus for the benefit and larger good of the ITI students.
Earlier, the chief guest inaugurated the newly constructed badminton court in the ITI campus.
