Legal services camp held at Kupup

Gangtok, 20 Nov:

District Legal Services Authority and Taluk Legal Services Committee, East organised a Legal Awareness and Legal Services Camp on NALSA [Legal Services to Workers in the Unorganized Sector] Scheme, 2015 at the Community Hall in Kupup, East Sikkim on 18 Nov, a press release informs.

The programme was chaired by District & Sessions Judge, East cum Chairperson of District Legal Services Authority, East, Jagat B Rai, and Ld. Civil Judge cum Judicial Magistrate and Secretary, DLSA, East, Ranjeeta Pradhan, along with officials from various departments.

Ld. Advocates from Bar Association of Gangtok, DP Luitel and Yadev Sharma, Labour Inspector, Labour Department, Navin Sharma, Health Educator, Rongli Primary Health Centre, Passang L Sherpa, attended the event as resource persons.

A mobile medical team from District Hospital, Singtam including Medical Officer and staff from Rongli PHC were also present for conducting health check up during the programme.

The programme highlighted on various topics such as POCSO Act, SADA Act, Juvenile Justice Board Act, Free Legal Aid, Immoral/Human Trafficking and different welfare schemes and rights of labours including Forest Act and Mental Health Act.

The gathering was also informed about the rules and regulations with regard to Forest and Wildlife Act. They were further apprised on mental health and treatment for different types of mental health problems.

The medical team conducted free check-ups and distributed medicines. A Legal Aid Clinic was also set up to address legal matters of the public and to provide counseling.
