New Pabyuik Monastery ready for inauguration
Gangtok, 21 Nov:
The newly constructed Pabyuik Monastery in East Sikkim is all set to be inaugurated on 27 Nov. Established in 1715, the monastery, which is one of the oldest monasteries of the State, had been damaged during the 2011 earthquake.
The State Government had sanctioned funds for the construction of a new monastery at the same complex.
Speaking to media persons at the monastery premises on Tuesday, Monastery Management Committee president, Sonam Tenzing Lepcha,said, “We were very happy when the State Government sanctioned funds. The construction works had commenced in 2013. The monastery is now complete and is being inaugurated on 27 Novby Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.”
He further informed that the State Government had sanctioned Rs 1.5 crore for the construction of the new monastery.
The committee also mentioned that the total cost for complete construction of monastery with inclusion of statues and other religious items came toRs 2 crore. The extra funds required for the completion of the construction was contributed by the then Divisional Engineer, Tenzing Lamtha [retired].
“Mr Lamtha has been very helpful for the successful completion of the project. He has retired but he is still working on the project while providing extra funds when required. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to him,” the committee expressed.
All the monks and devotees have also extended gratitude to the Chief Minister and the State Government for sanctioning funds for the newly constructed monastery.
