Intl Day for Prevention of Violence Against Women observed in Rhenock


Rhenock, 24 Nov (IPR): An awareness programme as part of the International Day for Prevention of Violence Against Women was organised by the Sikkim State Commission for Women in collaboration with One Stop Centre [under Social Justice Empowerment and Welfare Department] at Rhenock Block Administrative Centre here in East Sikkim on Saturday.

The programme was attended by the BDO, BL Adhikari, officials and staff of the BAC, Panchayat President, Aaganwadi Workers, ASHA members, representatives from SHGs and the staff of the Women’s Commission and the One Stop Centre.

Chimmi D. Bhutia spoke on various safety measures in terms of government delivery structures functioning in the State and also highlighted the importance of networking with the other stakeholders like Police, Health and voluntary organisations in working towards creating a safe environment for women.

Information on the one-stop centre and women’s helpline under Social Justice Empowerment and Welfare Department was also shared.

Chong Chyoki spoke on various forms of violence against women and highlighted various provisions of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, Sexual Harassment of women at workplace Act, Human Trafficking and POCSO Act. The programme ended with a group discussion on existing social issues.
