SNPP president lashes out against State Govt on pharma companies

GANGTOK, 27 Nov:

Pharma companies operating in Sikkim should give medicines free of cost to Sikkimese people as part of their corporate social responsibilities since the State has not benefited from these pharma companies so far, according to Sikkim National People's Party (SNPP) president, Delay Namgyal Barfungpa.

Alleging that the state government has not been able to rein in these pharma companies, he said that the 50 pharma companies that are operating in Sikkim could easily provide free medicines for the entire population of 7 lakh Sikkimese.

Even after 24 years of governance, the SDF led government has neglected health, education and other infrastructure sectors and remains interested only in 'Murti' politics, alleged Mr Barfungpa.

The only cardiologist of the state-run STNM Hospital has been transferred and posted to Animal Husbandry and Livestock Department which shows the importance the state government gives to the public health sector, he stated.

During the Panchayat Sammelan on 23 Nov the Chief Minister said that students of government schools are not at par with those of private schools, said Mr Barfungpa and demanded that if this is the case then he should immediately sack his HRDD Minister for failing to provide quality education. It is unfortunate to hear such statements from the head of the government, he added.
