11 schools conduct online exams for National Science Talent Programme

Gangtok, 28 Nov:

More than 500 students from 11 schools across Sikkim today appeared for online exams for National Science Talent Programme titled “Vidhyarthi Vigyan Manthan” (VVM) organised by Vigyan Bharati, Sikkim chapter, in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Science and Technology, in association with National Council of Education Research & Training (NCERT), a press release informs.

The main objective of the programme which was held in their respective schools was to nurture bright minds having scientific temperament and also to make students aware of India’s contributions towards development of science.

According to Dr TK Mandal, state co-ordinator, VVM and also the general secretary of Sikkim Vigyan Bharati, Sikkim’s 500 students are experiencing such kind of online exams for the first time and they are competing with around 1.43 lakh students across the country.

He informed that students appearing for the exams are from grades VI to XI and categorised in two groups- juniors (VI-VIII) and seniors (IX-XI).

Among these students 120 will be selected (20 students from each class) for the state level competition to be held on 15 Jan next year. The results of today’s exams will be declared on 15 Dec, he informed.

The release mentions that three state level finalists will be awarded prizes and certificates and will participate in the national level competition where they will have chance to interact with renowned scientists of the country along with visits of various scientific laboratories.

The schools which participated in today’s programme were Deorali Girls’ SSS, Holy Cross SSS, Tashi Namgyal SSS, Yangang SSS, Kendriya Vidhyalaya- Gangtok/Singtam, Bojoghari SS and all JNV Schools across Sikkim.
