SKM holds public meeting at Nampatam


MANGAN, 29 Nov:

Under the guidance of Atop Lepcha, Lakpa Lepcha [actor of Dhokbu film], Sam Tshering Lepcha, a public meeting was organized by Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) at Nampatam ward of Lachen Mangan constituency today.

The programme was attended by Samdup Lepcha of SKM as chief guest accompanied by senior citizens and youth.

Lakpa Lepcha, in his address, said that people must work for the development of the weaker sections of society and not for individuals. Each household should be aware and should understand SKM’s call for ‘parivartan’.

He criticized the ‘One Family One Job’ announcement by the Chief Minister, stating that it is a temporary job that cannot benefit the youth. He added that MGNREGA registered job card holders names cannot be cancelled as it is a central scheme aimed at development and solving the unemployment problem.

Mr Lepcha further alleged that the present government has done nothing to solve the problem of increasing suicide rate in the State.

During the meeting, several issues regarding problems faced by Nampatam public school children and teachers due to poor condition of roads. It was stated the road construction work from Nampatam to Punjyo Kyong has been put on halt for the last few months and road alignment has not been done properly.

Denlok Lepcha, a retired teacher, alleged that he has faced victimization transfer but has always provided proper services to his students wherever he was posted. He also voiced his allegiance to SKM.

Chief guest, Samdup Lepcha offered khadas and handed over party flags to new members of the party.

“Public should understand that their expectations from the present government have not been met. Voters and citizens must be aware that governments should change every 10-15 years for proper development and to give opportunity to the new generation to serve the society,” said Mr Lepcha.
