GANGTOK, 30 Nov:
Sikkim Democratic Front has asserted that the government has been fulfilling all promises made in its manifesto and will fulfil those that are still pending as every work takes time. The SDF government has already removed the immigrant tag on Sikkimese Nepali community and fulfilled many other political demands with its continuous and tireless efforts, informs an SDF press release issued by its general secretary [press & publicity], Chudamani Mishra.
The release mentions that Limboo-Tamang communities of Sikkimese Nepali origin have already got tribal status from the Central government in 2003 and both communities have been enjoying benefits as a tribal community.
It is further added that Sikkimese people also got income tax exemption on the basis of Sikkim Subject. Tribal status is provided to any community only after a thorough study of religion, culture, cuisines and other details of that particular community.
On the same, SDF has said that it is not wise to raise the immigrant tag issue when Limboo and Tamang of Sikkimese Nepali origin have been enjoying tribal status and to talk about approaching the Court or the Centre for the same.
