SKM govt will pay farmers in dollars says Golay
GANGTOK, 30 Nov:
On the second day of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha’s Parivartan Sankalp Yatra, SKM president PS Tamang [Golay] interacted with the people of Okharey Nagi, Pureybotey, Lower Okhrey, Ghareri Dara, Lower Tikpur, Beyong and Lungyam on Friday.
People of these areas expressed their grievances regarding the lack of proper marketing of their organic produce due to which they have been facing acute loss, informs an SKM press release.
Farmers further complained of incurring huge losses due to wild animals damaging their crops. The release adds that as per local people around 850 farmers have been working as labourers at Kupup due to losses incurred in farming.
SKM has accused the government of not working on any demands for compensating farmers for such damages.
Mr Tamang stated that after forming the government, SKM will provide payments to farmers for their organic produce in dollars.
On the day, the SKM president inaugurated a block-level office at Ribdi.
The release informs that former panchayat secretary, Lakpa Navi Sherpa and Asarman Lepcha and Sukmaya Lepcha of Lower Okhrey officially joined SKM party.
