Corruption has outstripped development in Sikkim: Golay
SKM’S PARIVARTAN SANKALP YATRA REACHES DARAMDIN
Gangtok, 02 Dec:
The fourth day of the Parivartan Sankalp Yatra of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha president, PS Tamang [Golay], started with an interaction with residents of Thambong and Aalleytaar under Daramdin constituency on Sunday. While conferring with the people to discuss their grievances and aspirations, he also lashed out against the SDF Government, contending that corruption has outstripped development in the State.
Thambong residents shared their grievances with regard to usuriously high electricity bills despite erratic power supply in their area, an SKM press release informs.
They also complained that even after having provided allotment orders for house construction in 2014, the State Government has not started any work on site till date, the release adds.
In his interactions with the people, Mr Tamang assured to make all arrangements to provide employment to local people and provide price support, incentive support and proper market for local farmers after SKM forms a government in Sikkim.
The release goes on to contend that the State government has just been providing pieces of paper in the name of benefits at Janta Melas because neither real delivery nor any development has taken place at the ground level.
He also lambasted the State Government for making announcements when elections have approached and questioned the government on why no laptops were distributed to students between the years 2014 and 2017 if the gesture was earnest.
He accused the SDF government and the CM of favouritism and allowing family and relatives to skim the cream. On the same, Mr Tamang urged the people to support SKM to establish “people’s rule in the State”.
He mentioned that due to the active role of SKM as the main opposition, the State Government has begun doing the people’s work. He asserted that it was unlikely that the SDF government will be able to deliver on its promises in the five months left till the next elections when it has remained unable to do so in the last 25 years.
He stressed that the government should ensure economic development of every citizen along with the development of the State. Instead, the State was currently in deep debt.
He also alleged rampant corruption in the government, claiming that corruption was underway on an even larger scale than development here.
The release informs that public meetings were also held at Anden and Aalleytaar were also addressed by working president, MP Subba, vice president West District in-charge, DB Gurung and West District in-charge, LN Nepal, of the party.
Another SKM press release informs that ward level committee members of Hamro Sikkim Party of Chalamthang under Martam-Rumtek constituency officially joined SKM on Saturday. President Manoj Bhattarai, vice-president Prashant Rijal, general secretary Shrawan Tamang and joint secretary Michael Lepcha of the ward level committee of HSP have joined SKM.
