Film screening and conversation at The People’s Studio

Gangtok, 03 Dec:

The People’s Studio is organizing “One Movie and Three Directors in Conversation” on 04 Dec at 5 p.m at ARTEM Office, Ground floor, Department of International Relations SU, Near Denzong Summit Hotel, Kazi Road, Gangtok.

During the event, Dr Meena Longjam, a Manipuri Film Director, will be screening her documentary Achoubi in Love, a film about a widow who invents a solution to protect indigenous ponies by creating an inclusive living space.

Longjam is a national award winning documentary filmmaker whose previous documentary, Autodriver, won the best short documentary award at the California-based Women’s Voices Now Film Festival in 2017. Her film Autodriver was screened at the launch of The People’s Studio at Artem on 18 Nov 2018.

After the screening, Longjam will be in conversation with two acclaimed film Directors from Sikkim – Tribeny Rai and Prashant Rasaily. They will be speaking about their work, the challenges they face as filmmakers and the process of making films in Manipur and in Sikkim.

The recently launched People’s Studio at Artem is a space for celebrating art practices from the 8 states in the northeast. It is a space for showcase, debates, discussions, exhibitions and enquiry through which we aim to make art accessible to all. The event is free and open to all.
