SNPP wants restrictions on CBI withdrawn

Gangtok, 04 Dec:

Sikkim National People’s Party [SNPP] today hit back the recent statement of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling’s on benami properties and said that if Mr Chamling was so insistent that he has no such properties within or outside the state, he must withdraw restrictions imposed on CBI opening investigations in the State.

SNPP president, Delay Namgyal Burfungpa, addressing a press conference here today, also informed that the party has been fighting on this very issue since 2010.

“Despite this, the Lokayukta has failed to appreciate and adjudicate his matter in time-bound manner after the Supreme Court reverted it to the Lokayukta in April 2014,” he said.

Over the course of the past four years, only three hearings have been held, he complained.

“Justice delayed is justice denied,” he said, adding that he has written to the Chief Justice of India, Prime Minister and President of India seeking their intervention on his plea.

The Chief Minister, while inaugurating a monastery on 28 Nov last month, and taking on opposition allegations of his having benami properties, had challenged them to prove their allegations that he held benami properties.
