SRLM organizes Mega SHG-Bankers Meet at Pakyong

One day SHG – Bankers Meet was organised by Sikkim Rural Livelihood Mission, Rural Management and Development Department, on 03 Dec at Pakyong Block under the chairmanship of Commissioner RMDD, Dr. P. Senthil Kumar. Over 625 SHG members participated in the meet and benefited from the program, a press release informs.

The program was attended by AGM Reserve Bank of India, AGM NABARD, Lead Bank Manager, State Bank of India, Branch Managers of SBI Pakyong, CBI Pakyong, SISCO Pakyong, SBI Ranipool, Dy Chief Executive Officer/SRLM, Block Project Manager, SRLM, DPM FI, APM Pakyong and PA Pakyong.

The objective of this meet was to enable and build a relationship between SRLM SHGs and the Banks in this block. RBI & NABARD extended their support to SHG & LDM along with Bank Managers encouraged SHG members to come forward and apply for loan from their respective bank branches for livelihood.

Thirty-one Loan applications were submitted on the day and timely sanction and disbursement has been promised by the Banks, the release informs. Over 600 SHG members were also enrolled for PMJJBY, PMSBY & APY schemes on the spot.

In is address Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, SMD/SRLM, explained the role of SHGs, the support and funds extended by the Livelihood Mission in the state. He also motivated them to take up livelihood activities at higher level and large scale. He also explained the NRLM efforts and safeguards facilitating the bank credits.

The self-help groups in Sikkim under SRLM are monitored very closely to ensure that they follow all NRLM norms and five principles of its functioning including regular saving, internal lending and account keeping through a monthly reporting system. All SHGs will go for digital accounting system in two months’ time through use of tablet at the field level. Community resource persons have been selected and trained for this purpose. This will further enhance the credibility of SHGs of Sikkim to seek bank credits. There are 28 Bank sakhis selected from the SHGs and have under gone training to facilitate bank loan to SHGs.

Dr Kumar stressed to the Bankers to use the service of the Bank Sakhis to prepare bank loan documents. During the discussion, bankers raised issues related to repayment and deposits of the savings of the SHGs in the Bank. It was clarified to them that several safeguards have been put in place under NRLM to ensure full repayment of bank credits by SHGs and there is a Community Based Recovery Mechanism (CBRM) is also has been put in place to take care of issues related to defaulters if any.

All the bankers appreciated the efforts made by SRLM in providing credit support to the SHGs and they assured that the banks will extend all supports to SHG funding in the state. All Bankers appreciated that SHG loans under NRLM has no default and has no NPA and all the bankers assured all support in providing all bank related support to SHGs including Bank credits in future as well. The program ended with a vote of thanks by the Block Project Manager.
