Governor Ganga Prasad granted audience to a group of 34 progressive farmers from Haryana in a formal meet at New Raj Bhavan this evening. The group was led by Chairperson, Krishna Gahlawat, Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board and Chief Administrator of the board, Hardeep Singh. The group arrived in Sikkim on 03 Dec for a five-day study cum exposure tour on organic farming practices adopted by Sikkim.
Expressing delight over the initiative and lead taken by Sikkim in organic farming in the country, members of the farmers group shared their happiness of getting opportunity to travel to beautiful, clean and first organic state in the country. They also conveyed their excitement of learning the nuances and good practices directly from the farmers on organic farming and said that they will take up organic farming in Haryana as sustainable agricultural practice for better tomorrow. They also said how the use of chemical fertilizers have caused misery and health complications to the masses, and spoiling the soil health irreparably simultaneously.
While addressing the visiting group, the Governor welcomed them to organic Sikkim and urged them to replicate the organic farming practice for sustainability. Highlighting how Haryana has better proximity of transport, market and other infrastructures for ensuring greater benefits to the farmers, the Governor said that if the state of Haryana takes up organic farming extensively, it would be much more easier and beneficial for farming community there. He also mentioned how Sikkim is now acclaimed nationally and globally as the leader in organic movement and added that the Sikkim people have to work hard for this achievement.
The Governor also conveyed his good wishes to the group for memorable stay in Sikkim and successful study tour.
