Chakung farmers trained on Soil Nutrient Management

Mevedir organized a GPU level training on Preparation of Soil Nutrient Management today at Chakung GPU, West Sikkim in the presence of Damber Kumari Gurung (Ward Panchayat), Karuna Darnal (MGNREGA member) along with Mevedir Master Trainer, Renuka Chettri and Sangita Dhital, a press release informs.
In the first session, Renuka Chettri (Mevedir Staff) explained about the soil nutrient management issues. She informed the farmers about preparation of liquid manure with locally available materials following simple methods for nutrient requirement for crops, the release mentions.
She briefed the participants about the process and ingredients for the preparation of Amrit Jal by introducing materials such as cow dung, cow urine, Jaggery (Gur), water & soil available from the farm and this preparation could be ready within a period of 4 to 5 days and to be utilized within a week. This highly nutrient rich liquid fertilizer would greatly enhance the fertility of the soil and provides good yield results for crops. The farmers were also informed about the dosage of this liquid manure.
The second half of the training was chaired by Sangita Dhital who briefed about the farmers diary which is one of the ICS documents. The farmers were informed about the maintaining of farmers diary, which records all the activities that occurs in the farm. She also explained the role of the farmers in maintenance of the Farmers Dairy and provided correct yield and production estimates.
Before concluding Damber Kumari Gurung shared her thoughts and opinion regarding Organic Farming and also highlighted some of the benefits of organic farming. The vote of thanks was delivered by Sangita Dhital and the program was concluded.
