State-level coordination meeting takes stock of Jorethang Maghey Mela preparation
Gangtok, 05 Dec [IPR]: A State-level coordination meeting was held for the Jorethang Maghey Sakranti Mela Celebrations 2019 at the conference hall of the Chief Secretary here at Manan Kendra today.
Health Minister AK Ghatani, who is also the chief patron of the organizing committee, chaired the meeting which was also attended by Chairperson, Nayabazar Jorethang Municipal Council, Tika Gurung, and Chief Secretary AK Shrivastava.
The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Heads of the department, IG Law and Order, officials and representatives from various departments and the executive members of Jorethang Maghey Sakranti Mela organizing committee 2019.
The 3-day Mela is scheduled to be inaugurated on 14 January by the Chief Minister.
At the outset, the Chief Secretary presented an overview of Jorethang Mela and marked the event as a historic and the biggest fair celebrated annually in the State.
The Chief Secretary also directed various departments to take up their assigned responsibilities sincerely and seriously.
The tentative programme designed by the Celebration Committee encompassing construction of stage and side pandals, gates, traditional food stalls, government exhibition stalls, installation of LED screens, cultural programmes, transportation, accommodation, lunch/ refreshments, rural and adventure sports, puja ceremony, maintenance of law and order etc. were discussed thoroughly with the respective line departments for further necessary action.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Ghatani extended his gratitude and congratulations to the Chief Secretary and various departments for their support in organizing the mela on previous occasions and hoped for the same cooperation and contributions to make the Jorethang Maghey Mela 2019, a grand success.
He instructed all the departments to display people-centric schemes and programmes implemented along with the achievements of the State Govt over the past 25 years at their respective stalls.
He urged the Commerce & Industries Department to coordinate with all the nationalized banks to bring their schemes to the public domain through exhibitions and displays at the mela so that the people were informed about new programmes and schemes like Krishi pension to farmers, Start-up Schemes, Mukhya Mantri Jiwan Rakhya Kosh, HPV vaccination, initiatives to eliminate Tuberculosis, etc.
Programmes like SARAS Mela, Job Fair, AROGYA Mela, Orange Festival, traditional and cultural events, sports like rock climbing, Sikkim Run will be the major components of the Jorethang Maghey Mela celebration this year.
Self Help Groups and youth have to be involved and benefited on priority, he added.
He also urged committee members to inform the concerned authorities about progress and preparedness of the assigned works.
The Chief Secretary, in his concluding remarks, instructed all departments to depute nodal officers and coordinate with the Information & Public Relations Department. He was supported the proposal to organize Orange Festival as a component of Jorethang Maghey Mela and urged the departments along with Milk Union and NERLP.
The Chief Secretary directed that proper safety measures be included in organizing events like rock climbing. He also stressed proper arrangements for waste management. Further, he instructed the concerned department to take up responsibility on illumination of Akar Bridge, opening of FRO at Rambang Check-post (w), cultural events, Puja ceremony, maintenance of law and order etc.
Secrerary, RMDD, KS Rao, also informed that the department has invited all the states and union territories to participate in SARAS Mela.
This year, the pandal of SARAS Mela will be constructed by the committee and funds transferred to the committee’s account for the said purpose.
SDM Jorethang, Tshering Bhuia, and SE Power (Jorethang Circle), Jigmee Namgyal, informed the meeting about the plans and tentative programmes mapped out by the committee.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Secretary, IPR Department, Dr Sherap Shenga. She also urged all departments for full cooperation and coordination to make the mela, a grand success.
