ECI Secy in-charge for Sikkim checks on Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls
Gangtok, 07 Dec [IPR]:
Election Commission of India had announced Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls of intensive nature w.e.f. 01.01.2019 as qualifying date. Pre-Revision activities of house to house, field verification by Booth Level Officers, rationalisation and physical verification of polling station buildings have been completed. Draft Photo Electoral Roll was published on 01 September 2018. Period for filing of claims and objections was scheduled from 1st September to 31st October 2018.
ECI has been monitoring all these activities very closely. In this regard, Secretary, Election Commission, Arvind Anand, in-charge of state of Sikkim, is on two day visit to Sikkim to review the progress of activities under the Special Summary Revision 2018.
On 05 December 2018, Mr Anand called on Chief Electoral Officer, Sikkim, R. Telang, to take stock of progress in Sikkim.
The CEO apprised him of the Assembly Constituency wise status and field reports.
Later in the afternoon, a meeting with District Election Officer, East, Kapil Meena, and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) of various assembly constituencies of East District was held in the conference hall of District Administrative Centre, Sichey.
Mr Anand also interacted with Booth Level Officers of Arithang and Upper Burtuk Assembly Constituencies and expressed his satisfaction over the work undertaken by the field functionaries and urged them to work diligently to prepare a healthy and error-free electoral roll for final publication for the ensuing election 2019.
He shall be visiting some of the remote polling stations and interact with the concerned BLOs and EROs to obtain firsthand information on the work done so far.
He will also be visiting South District on 07 Dec to see that instructions issued by the Commission are being implemented at all levels.
