A four-day State Level Tribal Festival, 2018 will be held from 13 to 16 Dec at Namprikdang, Upper Dzongu, North Sikkim, a press release informs. The festival will be organised by Tribal Research Institute, Social Justice, Empowerment & Welfare Department Government of Sikkim in collaboration with District Administration North & Namprikdang, Namsoong Festival Celebration Committee, funded by Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.
The primary objective of organising the State Level Tribal Festival is to provide a platform and to showcase the talent amongst the Bhutia, Lepcha, Limboo, Tamang and Sherpa tribal communities in the State, the release mentions.
The outstanding achievers belonging to Scheduled Tribe category will be given recognition and felicitation for their outstanding contribution in the fields of Sports, Science & Technology, Language/literature, culture, Bio-diversity conservation for the welfare of tribal community in the State.
The major attraction of the festival will be to display local and tribal foods, arts & artefacts, presentation of cultural dance, presentation of traditional activities of Maharashtra by the artist representing Hind Prashisthan Mardani Akhada, Kolapur.
During the festival, Tribal Achievers Award 2018 will also be presented to Jas Raj Subba, Norzong Lepcha, Norbu Tamang, Dorjee Sherpa, Kiden Bhutia and Namgyal Lepcha.
Professor Praksh Pattanaik, Head of Department of Modern Indian Languages, Delhi University will be attending the festival as a special guest. The organisers have invited the public to attend the event.
