SKM will empower Sherpa community: Golay
GANGTOK, 13 Dec:
Sikkim Krantikari Morcha president, PS Tamang [Golay] concluded his Parivartan Sankalp Yatra of Gyalshing Bermiok constituency in West Sikkim today. The 12th day of Parivartan Sankalp Yatra started with offering of prayers at Singha Mandir at Gautam Gaon in Bermiok and then the party president interacted with the people of Upper Bermiok, Sherpa Gaon, Gurung Gaon, Upper Martam, Maneydara, Pechrek, Manjha Gaon and Hee-Patal to conclude the yatra for Gyalshing Bermiok constituency, informs an SKM press release.
Addressing the people in a meeting at Sherpa Gaon, Mr Golay stressed that Sherpa community should also get rights and privileges at par with other tribal communities in the State. He stated that SKM government would give justice to the community and assured a Minister from the Sherpa community if his party comes to power.
Mr Golay alleged that the State government does not have any policy or programs and has been distributing only Central benefits and schemes. He informed that all other States of India have already implemented the Scheduled Tribes and other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 (2 of 2007) except Sikkim. On the same, he added that the state government has neglected the tribals of Sikkim by not implementing this Act to deprive tribals of their rights.
The release informs that the party president will inaugurate SKM circle office at Jorethang in South Sikkim on Friday. It is added that the inauguration function will also have the participation of leaders and workers from SDF party and social workers. The next phase of Parivartan Sankalph Yatra will start after Rolu Picnic and Yuva Nari Adhiveshan of the party.
