GANGTOK, 24 DEC:
Sikkim Against Addiction Towards Healthy India (SAATHI) organized an SMC workshop for schools of North District today at Panchayat Bhawan of Mangan, a press release informs.
The workshop had the participation of 26 members from Hee-Gyathang Sr. Sec. School, Mangan Sr. Sec. School, Kalzang Gyatso Sr. Sec. School (Kabi), Mangshila Sr. Sec. School and Phensang Secondary School had participated.
The program started with a welcome address by SAATHI team, highlighting the objective of SAATHI program.
SMC president, Hee-Gyathang Sr. Sec. School, Samroo Ugan Palzor Lepcha, spoke about roles and responsibilities of SMC in schools. He informed that main task of SMC is to manage problems of the school, students and school’s fund.
Psychologist, Mangan District Hospital, Sangam Sharma briefed the participants about Addiction and Mental Health. He also mentioned that these days, young people are getting addicted to games such as Blue Whale game, Momo game which have led to many suicides, thus he stressed that addiction to technology can be equally harmful as alcohol addiction.
The program continued with a short skit performed by the students of Mangan SSS on substance abuse.
Chief guest of the program, Zilla Adhyaksha of North District, Namdey Lepcha addressed the participants and said that everyone should work together to eradicate substance abuse.
