Gangtok power supply to be restored soon: MLA
GANGTOK, 26 DEC:
Gangtok has been facing frequent power cuts for the past few weeks. The most affected areas are Kazi Road, MG Marg, Nam Nang and Tibet road.
Gangtok MLA, Pintso Chopel Lepcha has agreed that there is a power supply problem regarding which he met the Power Secretary, KB Kunwar, today, to understand the reasons behind the frequent power cuts.
The issue has been resolved and power supply will be back to normal in a few days, he said.
The MLA further said increasing load on the power stations is a problem and a proposal for a separate power sub-station for Gangtok is in the pipeline.
We are hopeful that it will be approved shortly and this will boost the power supply in Gangtok, he added.
“There are technical problems from time to time and sometimes there are line faults and to correct these problems we need to stop power supply for some time. It is not due to shortage of power supply but the problem is due to technical faults; and during maintenance there can be some power outages. The Department is trying its very best to stop this kind of outages. In winters, power consumption is slightly higher than the summer season so there will be technical faults and to correct them we have to cut the power supply for some time,” said Power Secretary, Mr Kunwar.
The Secretary also informed that the 33/11 KV power substation shall be installed in the DPH power station and the proposal has already been made.
