Gangtok, 02 Jan:

Twenty-four candidates from different parts of the State successfully completed a Referee Clinic held from 26 to 30 December here at Paljor Stadium. The five-day clinic was conducted by Sikkim Football Association [SFA] in close coordination with All India Football Federation [AIFF], New Delhi.

A press release from SFA president, Menla Ethenpa, informs that Maria Rebello from Asian Football Confederation and Suresh Sriniwasa and Anup Kumar from AIFF conducted the clinic. The release adds that out of 60 applicants, 24 eligible candidates were shortlisted for the clinic.

The valedictory function of the clinic was held at Paljor Stadium conference hall on 30 December.

On the occasion, the SFA president thanked AIFF for deputing such high level instructors to conduct the clinic in Gangtok. The SFA president also presented mementos to the instructors and distributed participation certificates to all candidates.

On receiving a technical report from AIFF New Delhi, candidates are likely to be presented with ‘Category V’ Referee Licenses, it is informed.

Speaking on the occasion, Maria Rebello remarked that candidates from Sikkim who attended the clinic were quite high caliber as compared to candidates from other parts of the country therefore there was no reason why Sikkimese referees should not feature in forthcoming I-League and ISL in days to come.

The release adds that Suresh Sriniwasan advised all candidates to read the Referee Manual on regular basis.

It is informed that Anup Kumar of Referee Department, AIFF New Delhi, also imparted training to Bikash Pradhan, Head of Referee, Sikkim, on how to use software on RASI.

On behalf of the candidates, Subash Tamang, Lhamu Tamang and Trilok Rai thanked SFA for holding such a clinic for them and assured to extend full support in conducting local leagues in districts and state level in the coming days.
