Students and teachers of Gerethang Senior Secondary School (GSSS), West Sikkim held an impromptu cleanliness drive on 01 Jan in and around Gerethang bazar.
“Education should be applied towards making the society. The day we find transformation within ourselves, our thoughts, words and deeds is the day we learn to be happy in every little thing and that day should be celebrated as a New Year,” says teacher from GSSS, Deepak Chettri.
Deepak Chettri, Jeewan Limboo, Biswas Rai, Puja Tamang and Arpana Subba along with a host of students stormed the market and cleaned every nook and corner of Gerethang bazar.
Another teacher from GSSS, Jeewan Limboo shared the theme, “Let’s start 2019 with our change in behavior, Disposing Garbage Properly” making people aware and realising students responsibility in society making. Such a drive was conceived for the New Year which can instill a positive note in the beginning of the year with each small step adding to the overall image of the state and in over all nation building, he says.
This ceanliness drive started at 8am anc continued till 3pm in and around Gerethang bazaar covering all the nalas, jhoras and the school compound.
In a one of a kind, ‘promise burning’ programme that was conducted after the cleanliness drive all students wrote their bad habits and burned it. This was followed by a promise by all to leave behind their negative behaviour and approach the New Year with a fresh enthusiasm to make clean, green and self sufficient Sikkim.
