ASKCBKS thanks CM for including Teej in list of holidays

Gangtok, 02 Jan:

A meeting of the Akhil Sikkim Khas Chhetri-Bahun Kalyan Sangh [ASKCBKS] was held here on Tuesday.

The meeting, chaired by Sangh president Tek Bahadur Basnet, had RMDD Minister SB Subedi as chief guest and was attended by executive committee members from all four districts.

An ASKCBKS press release informs that the meeting discussed various agenda points of the organization and thanked that State Government and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling for declaring a State holiday for the festival of Teej.

The release adds that such an initiative of the CM was evidence of his liberal and inclusive policies and an example of his work for the preservation and welfare of all religious and cultural practices.

The organisation president, Mr Basnet, maintained that instead to just making assurances and announcements, the government made the effort to bring out a notification for the same.

He mentioned that this initiative of the government was a big moment for the Khas Chettri-Bahun community for the preservation of their religious, cultural and social practices.

He asserted that welfare measures for the community would only be successful while working in the close coordination of the State government.

The release states that the RMDD Minister mentioned that this initiative of the CM clearly reflects his honest intention, harmony and equality towards all communities, gender and social and cultural sections.

It is informed that the meeting was also attended by Upper Burtuk MLA, DR Thapa, who is also a former president of the organisation, and Upper Tadong MLA, Timothy William Basnet.
